SMS Services

You can use SMS to get information about your grant. This is a quick way to check your status without waiting on the phone.

Check Your Grant Status:

SMS the word "Status" to 32248

Standard SMS rates apply. Make sure you SMS from the phone number registered with SASSA.

Visit a SASSA Office

You can visit any SASSA office for help with applications, to update your information, or to get answers to your questions. Our staff will be happy to assist you. Learn more about available grants.

What to Bring:

  • Your ID document
  • Your grant reference number (if you have one)
  • Any letters or documents from SASSA

Tip: Offices are usually quieter in the middle of the month. Try to visit then if possible to avoid long queues.

Make a Complaint or Report Fraud

If you have a complaint about SASSA services or want to report fraud, we take this very seriously and will investigate.

How to Make a Complaint:

  1. Call the SASSA helpline: 0800 60 10 11
  2. Visit your nearest SASSA office and ask to speak to a manager
  3. Write down the details: what happened, when, and who was involved
  4. Get a reference number for your complaint
  5. SASSA will investigate and respond to you

Report Fraud:

If you know about someone receiving a grant they don't qualify for, or if someone is asking you to pay for help with your application, please report it immediately.

You can report fraud anonymously. Your information will be kept confidential.

Common Types of Fraud to Report:

  • Someone asking you to pay for an application
  • A SASSA official asking for a bribe
  • Someone collecting grants for people who have died
  • False disability claims
  • People claiming grants in multiple names

Urgent Matters

If you have an urgent issue that needs immediate attention, contact right away.

Lost or Stolen SASSA Card:

If your SASSA card is lost or stolen, call the helpline immediately to block it: 0800 60 10 11

You will need to visit your nearest SASSA office with your ID to get a replacement card.

Incorrect Payment Amount:

If you received the wrong amount, contact SASSA within 7 days. Call 0800 60 10 11 or visit your nearest office.

Grant Suspended or Stopped:

If your grant has been suspended or stopped and you don't know why, contact SASSA immediately. Bring your ID and any letters from SASSA to your nearest office.
